KiCAD created files for the ZX Max 128 Issue 3A designed by DonSuperfo

This Kicad project has only been done so as to allow for a proper ibom that includes tracks and vias to be created so as to make assembling easier.

I have tried to ensure that the footprints were located as close as possible to those in the original as well trying to follow the existing track and via locations. Some of the footprints that were downloaded from Digikey based on the parts in the official BOM do not fit exactly in their locations on the board. C15 is one example, I had to modify it's footprint to fit the pad dimensions. Some other capacitors also do not fit correctly but appear…

ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A: common questions

What microcontroller does the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A use?

The ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A is built around the ESP8266-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A PCB?

The ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A measures 213 × 84.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A?

162 components, from 52 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A design files?

From the liveboxandy/ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with liveboxandy. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ZX-Max-128-Issue-3A without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
