About the Wheel-Encoder PCB

Wheel-Encoder is an open source PCB design by manyetox, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 20 × 16.8 mm, with 5 components from 4 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the MA730. By type, the board carries 2 connectors, 2 capacitors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Source-available modular mobile carrier for autonomous photonics experiments using ESP32 control, optical flow, IMU sensing and magnetic wheel encoding.

Platform: V2 Board revision: ENC-R1.0 Status: validated; current PCB: 2 layers, approximately 20 × 16.8 mm

ENC-R1.0 measures wheel/shaft angle using the MA730 magnetic angle sensor. It replaces earlier exploration of sparse Hall-sensor edge counting with a more direct angle-sensing approach.

- SPI: MOSI, MISO, SCLK, CS - 3.3 V and GND - optional A/B/Z outputs - PWM output - MGL/MGH magnetic-field diagnostic outputs

Wheel-Encoder: common questions

How big is the Wheel-Encoder PCB?

The Wheel-Encoder measures 20 × 16.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wheel-Encoder?

5 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wheel-Encoder design files?

From the manyetox/Autonomous-Photonics-Carrier repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wheel-Encoder design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
