From the project

Miniscope Zero hardware and software

Repository for Miniscope Zero: a fully wireless, single-cell-resolution miniature microscope for imaging neural dynamics in freely behaving animals.

Miniscope Zero is a miniature one-photon microscope that operates without tethers: power is delivered via quasistatic cavity resonance (QSCR) wireless power transfer, and imaging data is streamed over a high-bandwidth optical link. This repository hosts the project-specific hardware designs — the miniscope, the optical data acquisition hardware, and the QSCR arena — and points to the related software and hardware repositories.

WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard use?

The WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard is built around the ATSAMD51J20A-UUT-EFP, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard PCB?

The WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard measures 14 × 9.2 mm, has 8 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard?

80 components, from 39 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard design files?

From the miniscope/MiniscopeZero repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which miniscope chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the WLMS-v0 2 1-motherboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
