About the EGSE PCB

EGSE is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by nanosatlab, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 327 × 271 mm, with 109 components from 47 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico-Clasp_01x03, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the ISL9120IRTNZ and LTC4040EUFD#PBF. By type, the board carries 73 connectors, 5 capacitors, 3 diodes, 3 resistors, 2 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the rf & radio, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

IEEE PocketQubes

Hardware repository for the IEEE GRSS PocketQube built at the NanoSat Lab (UPC).

It holds the complete electrical and mechanical design of the satellite: KiCad projects for every PCB in the stack, the SolidWorks/STEP assembly of the full spacecraft, the deployment mechanisms, and the ground/mechanical support equipment used to integrate and test it.

This repository contains design data only — there is nothing to build or run. Flight and ground software live elsewhere, as does the PL3 payload hardware (nanosatlab/pocat-rfi-5g).

EGSE: common questions

What microcontroller does the EGSE use?

The EGSE is built around the Pico-Clasp_01x03, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the EGSE PCB?

The EGSE measures 327 × 271 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the EGSE?

109 components, from 47 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the EGSE design files?

From the nanosatlab/pocat-hw repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the EGSE design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with nanosatlab. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the EGSE without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
