About the Macro-Keyboard v4 PCB

Macro-Keyboard v4 is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by NikolasKelava, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 81 × 112.2 mm, with 65 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the AS5600-ASOT, USBLC6-2SC6 and BQ24040DSQR. By type, the board carries 15 switches, 15 capacitors, 13 diodes, 11 resistors, 4 ICs and 4 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A custom, wireless Bluetooth LE macro keypad (12 keys + magnetic rotary encoder + OLED) built on an nRF52840 module and running ZMK

A custom, wireless Bluetooth LE macro keypad with 12 mechanical keys, a magnetic rotary encoder, and a 128×64 OLED built on a Nordic nRF52840 module and running ZMK. Keys and profiles are configurable live over ZMK Studio; the encoder is a per-profile knob (volume / vertical scroll / horizontal scroll / browser tabs). Battery-powered (2000 mAh LiPo) with USB-C charging.

Macro-Keyboard v4: common questions

What microcontroller does the Macro-Keyboard v4 use?

The Macro-Keyboard v4 is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Macro-Keyboard v4 PCB?

The Macro-Keyboard v4 measures 81 × 112.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the Macro-Keyboard v4?

65 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Macro-Keyboard v4 design files?

From the NikolasKelava/macro-keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Macro-Keyboard v4 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which NikolasKelava chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Macro-Keyboard v4 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
