About the SIGNAL PCB

SIGNAL is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Oerdna, published on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 100 × 100 mm, with 69 components from 34 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TPS562200, MAX31865xTP, ADS1115IDGS, TS5A3166DBVR and 74HC595. By type, the board carries 24 capacitors, 23 resistors, 11 ICs, 5 connectors, 3 jumpers and 1 module.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

Redesigned PCB for simultaneous Peltier control and surface resistance measurement

More details about the device can be understood from the schematic drawing here. The notes are in Russian.

The controller for the complex is STM32L432KC Nucleo.

In this case are studing the I - V characteristic of an element depending on the temperature of the sample. It is important to understand the I – V characteristic near the metal-insulator phase transition (MIT), which is about 68 degrees Celsius. You must understand that the ultimate goal is to stabilize the temperature to a specific value. More about the TEC control [2]

SIGNAL: common questions

What microcontroller does the SIGNAL use?

The SIGNAL is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the SIGNAL PCB?

The SIGNAL measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SIGNAL?

69 components, from 34 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SIGNAL design files?

From the Oerdna/V2_TEC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SIGNAL design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its AGPL-3.0 license, which Oerdna chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SIGNAL without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
