About the Switch Panel PCB

Switch Panel is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Plasmarobo, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 118.1 × 80 mm, with 55 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328PB-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MCP41010, MAX7219 and MCP23017_SP. By type, the board carries 16 switches, 11 connectors, 11 resistors, 6 ICs, 6 diodes and 4 capacitors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

Heavily inspired by Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes and Bomb Corp.

This ammounts to a electroncs and software programming project, with a side-helping of game design and art!

The software for this is not yet written, but I'm looking forward to the increased power and peripherals vs the ATTiny85.

The eventual plan is to laser cut and paint and acrylic panel to fit into a case. An alternative may be to 3D print some slotable modules and a motherboard panel to hold them.

Switch Panel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Switch Panel use?

The Switch Panel is built around the ATMEGA328PB-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Switch Panel PCB?

The Switch Panel measures 118.1 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Switch Panel?

55 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Switch Panel design files?

From the Plasmarobo/Disarmed repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Switch Panel design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Switch Panel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
