About the Blinky badge light PCB

Blinky badge light is an open source ESP32 PCB design by rowr111, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 108.6 × 87.8 mm, with 105 components from 36 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TP4056, AP2112K-3.3, MT3608, CP2102N-AXX-XQFN24 and SN74LVC1T45DBV. By type, the board carries 41 capacitors, 28 diodes, 20 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 transistors and 1 battery holder.

It belongs with the wearables, rf & radio and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

lighting badge with unique patterns and sound reactivity

- Although this project was written from scratch, has some different features, and uses a different microcontroller etc from the original badge, it shares the fundamental shared goal of the original - to light up the night in a fun and personal way! - I also re-use the pattern generation concepts from the original badge in some of the patterns, so visually there are also some similarities. - This badge does not share the radio communication features of the original, nor does it have a screen/ui - thus it's called blinky badge "light". (Also, it makes.. light. get it? :D)

Blinky badge light: common questions

What microcontroller does the Blinky badge light use?

The Blinky badge light is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Blinky badge light PCB?

The Blinky badge light measures 108.6 × 87.8 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Blinky badge light?

105 components, from 36 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Blinky badge light design files?

From the rowr111/blinky-badge-light repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Blinky badge light design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which rowr111 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Blinky badge light without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
