About the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 PCB

Dual PDH Laser driver v3 is an open source NXP PCB design by scular-HCC, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 291.8 × 265.6 mm, with 197 components from 86 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the TEENSY_4.1, from the NXP family. Other key parts include the OPA192IDR, OPA551U, ADG419BRM, INA826 and OPA859xDSG. By type, the board carries 80 resistors, 36 capacitors, 30 ICs, 11 diodes, 10 transistors and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Dual laster Pound-Dreaver-Hall driver setup. 1550 nm DFBs. Q=10^-5. Less than 20 GHz difference

A precision two-channel controller for 1550 nm DFB butterfly lasers — a differential optical thermometer built as a 3U Eurocard instrument.

Each channel provides low-noise constant-current laser drive, a bipolar linear TEC temperature controller, RF frequency modulation, and a synchronous-demodulation Pound–Drever–Hall lock that holds the laser to the side of an optical resonance. Lasers A and B lock to their own fringe of a shared reference cavity; the beat frequency between them, Δν = S·(TB − TA) with S ≈ 2 GHz/K, is a ratiometric measurement in which slow common-mode drift cancels.

Dual PDH Laser driver v3: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 use?

The Dual PDH Laser driver v3 is built around the TEENSY_4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 PCB?

The Dual PDH Laser driver v3 measures 291.8 × 265.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dual PDH Laser driver v3?

197 components, from 86 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 design files?

From the scular-HCC/DualLaserPDHDriver repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Dual PDH Laser driver v3 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
