About the FPGA Board

FPGA Board is an open source FPGA PCB design by sneakylizard123-4, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 50 × 70 mm, with 81 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ICE40UP5K-SG48ITR, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, TLV75712PDBV, TLV75725PDBV, TLV75733PDBV and 74AUC2G240. By type, the board carries 38 capacitors, 24 resistors, 9 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 inductors and 2 diodes.

From the project

It is built around the Lattice iCE40 FPGA, designed to be programmed over USB through the on-board FT232H. The SPI flash boots the bitstream on power-up. It is fully supported by the open-source yosys/nextpnr/icestorm flow.

As the board uses an iCE40 UltraPlus, it is programmed with yosys + nextpnr-ice40 + icepack + iceprog/icestorm.

FPGA Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the FPGA Board use?

The FPGA Board is built around the ICE40UP5K-SG48ITR, from the FPGA family.

How big is the FPGA Board?

The FPGA Board measures 50 × 70 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the FPGA Board?

81 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the FPGA Board design files?

From the sneakylizard123-4/FPGA_Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the FPGA Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sneakylizard123-4. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the FPGA Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
