About the Main Board

Main Board is an open source STM32 PCB design by Terrapin-Rocket-Team, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 71 × 66 mm, with 87 components from 49 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MS5611-01BA, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the BMI088, H3LIS331DL, BQ25185DLHR and SAM-M10Q-00B. By type, the board carries 30 capacitors, 26 resistors, 13 connectors, 8 diodes, 5 ICs and 2 inductors.

From the project

Code and PCBs for the avionics subteam for the SRAD flight computer and side projects

The avionics subteam manages this repo, as well as the Multi-Mission-Flight-Software and Ground Station repositories. Look at the Issues tab for tasks that need to be done, and the Projects tab for the current status of the Avionics subteam as a whole.

Most of our development for our competition rocket systems will be within the /Spaceport/ directory. Here, the parts are broken up by whether they are hardware, PCBs, or code.

Main Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Main Board use?

The Main Board is built around the MS5611-01BA, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Main Board?

The Main Board measures 71 × 66 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Main Board?

87 components, from 49 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Main Board design files?

From the Terrapin-Rocket-Team/SRAD-Avionics repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Main Board design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Terrapin-Rocket-Team. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Main Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
