About the 6502-Computer PCB

6502-Computer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by The-Invent0r, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 188.3 × 114.3 mm, with 34 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the WD65C02, 28C256, WC1602A, 74HC00 and WD65C22. By type, the board carries 10 connectors, 10 capacitors, 8 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 switch and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

These are the PCB files for the modified BE6502 computer I put together.

I've removed all the connections between the two Atmega328p chips and the 74HC166 chip since the design is copyrighted. But all the connections can be found on Grant Searle's website (http://searle.x10host.com/MonitorKeyboard/index.html) along with instructions on how to connect them to your specific display.

6502-Computer: common questions

What microcontroller does the 6502-Computer use?

The 6502-Computer is built around the ATmega328P-PU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the 6502-Computer PCB?

The 6502-Computer measures 188.3 × 114.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 6502-Computer?

34 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 6502-Computer design files?

From the The-Invent0r/6502-Computer-PCB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 6502-Computer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with The-Invent0r. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 6502-Computer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
