About the ISA rev8 PCB

ISA rev8 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by TheRetroWeb, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.6 × 69.2 mm, with 42 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the 74LVC02, 74LVC11, 74LVC245 and 24LC01. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 7 ICs, 7 diodes, 7 capacitors, 5 connectors and 1 buzzer.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 4 earlier revisions of it.

RPi Pico based POST (Power-On Self Test) Diagnostic Card

PicoPOST is a PC diagnostic card for systems with, at least, an 8-bit ISA slot. It's based around the Raspberry Pi Pico, powered by an RP2040.

PicoPOST is designed to provide many additional benefits over the basic POST cards that are commonly available from Chinese vendors on eBay and other sites.

This project is getting ready for public usage, with a few prototypes already in use for development purposes. More information soon as it gets finalized.

ISA rev8: common questions

What microcontroller does the ISA rev8 use?

The ISA rev8 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the ISA rev8 PCB?

The ISA rev8 measures 99.6 × 69.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ISA rev8?

42 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ISA rev8 design files?

From the TheRetroWeb/PicoPOST repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ISA rev8 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which TheRetroWeb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ISA rev8 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
