About the ESP 8 Relay Module

ESP 8 Relay Module is an open source ESP32 PCB design by thermseekr, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 148 × 67.8 mm, with 271 components from 55 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32E(8MB), from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TX4138, SY8089A1AAC, LTV-817S-TA1-C, CH340C and PCF8574TS/3,118. By type, the board carries 126 resistors, 54 diodes, 38 capacitors, 24 ICs, 19 transistors and 5 connectors.

From the project

ESP32-based industrial I/O board. 16x optoisolated 24VDC inputs, 16x transistor outputs. 1-Wire interface. DIN rail compatible.

The outputs are based on the MMBT2222A SMD transistor and are rated for a maximum of 500mA, although it is recommended to limit the current to 350 mA for continous operation. If driving inductive loads like relays, a freewheeling diode or a snubber circuit should be used to limit the switching transients and protect the transistors.

Also included is a 1-Wire interface for external sensors. This interface can be switched to connect either to GPIO16 for use with a bitbang driver like the one available in Tasmota, or to a DS2482S-100 1-Wire master for building more complex networks. Selection…

ESP 8 Relay Module: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP 8 Relay Module use?

The ESP 8 Relay Module is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32E(8MB), from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP 8 Relay Module?

The ESP 8 Relay Module measures 148 × 67.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP 8 Relay Module?

271 components, from 55 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP 8 Relay Module design files?

From the thermseekr/eumesmo-io-24v16ch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP 8 Relay Module design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the ESP 8 Relay Module without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
