About the Controller PCB
Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by TheScientist101, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 89.1 × 49.9 mm, with 28 components from 17 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the BMP388, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TLV1117LV33DCYR, W25Q64JVSSIQ_C179171, STM32H750VBTX and NRF24L01_BREAKOUT. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 5 ICs, 5 diodes, 5 capacitors, 4 switches and 1 connector.
It belongs with the robotics & motion and sensors designs in this gallery.
From the project
An open source, low cost, extensible brushed drone.
Astra is an ~80mm brushed quadcopter. It it powered off of a single 1s Li-Po (4.2V), and uses four brushed motors.
Astra supports an optional FPV module, and includes a HAT-style pin interface on the flight controller.
We've also designed our own transmitter for Astra. The flight controller and transmitter use an nRF24 to communicate with low latency.
Every part of Astra was designed from scratch - the flight controller, the transmitter, and the frame.

Controller: common questions
What microcontroller does the Controller use?
The Controller is built around the BMP388, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Controller PCB?
The Controller measures 89.1 × 49.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Controller?
28 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Controller design files?
From the TheScientist101/astra repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Controller design in my own project?
It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.
Can I test firmware for the Controller without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
