About the Radar v2 PCB

Radar v2 is an open source STM32 PCB design by TonyStark2007, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 90.2 × 40 mm, with 264 components from 79 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F405, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP4022, LT1817GN, Check_Point, SG-210STF and 5400BL15B050E. By type, the board carries 108 capacitors, 75 resistors, 51 ICs, 11 diodes, 11 inductors and 4 connectors.

From the project

This is an attempt to develop a ground penetrating FMCW radar. The operating range is 100MHz to 1000MHz, central frequency 435MHz. This is work in progress and not yet concrete.

This is an attempt to make a subGHz radar.

STM32F4 has triangular waveform generation option with its DAC and also ADF4158 is used for PLL topology. Either option can be used for waveform generation. Check schematic to populate necessary resistor values to use either mode. ADF4158 can generate pulses with some gap between each sweep. In this way N number of samples are packed and buffered over USB during this gap. Main loop runs with a FSM to check conditions of sweep. ADF4158 Muxout is generating pulse according to the sweep condition. External interrupt tracks this pulse to move between…

Radar v2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Radar v2 use?

The Radar v2 is built around the STM32F405, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Radar v2 PCB?

The Radar v2 measures 90.2 × 40 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Radar v2?

264 components, from 79 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Radar v2 design files?

From the TonyStark2007/GPR_FMCW_SubGHz repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Radar v2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which TonyStark2007 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Radar v2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
