About the Z80Proto PCB

Z80Proto is an open source PCB design by transistorfet, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 59.7 × 99.7 mm, with 22 components from 15 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the Z80CPU, HM62256, 28C256, 74HC14 and 74LS32. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 5 ICs, 4 capacitors, 1 crystal, 1 connector and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

The Z80 Not Quite Computer ==========================

A simple platform for experimenting with Z80 CPUs. The Z80Proto board has a Z80 CPU, with a 32KB SRAM chip and a 32KB EEPROM chip, along with a bus of pins for connecting to other things. It also has a simple clock circuit that can optionally be used. It does not have any onboard I/O, or an onboard power supply (hence why it's not quite a computer). The intention is to connect the bus pins to an Arduino Mega, which acts as a supervisor, controlling the CPU through the BUSREQ and RESET lines, and emulating I/O devices. It was made partly…

Z80Proto: common questions

How big is the Z80Proto PCB?

The Z80Proto measures 59.7 × 99.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Z80Proto?

22 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Z80Proto design files?

From the transistorfet/computie repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Z80Proto design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which transistorfet chose for the repository.
