About the Driver Module

Driver Module is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Twisted-Fields, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 68.8 × 36 mm, with 107 components from 45 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVSSIQ, LD1086DT33TR, EG3113 and INA240A1D. By type, the board carries 42 resistors, 27 capacitors, 13 diodes, 7 ICs, 7 connectors and 3 transistors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

A dual channel brushless motor controller based on the RP2040 microcontroller, designed in Kicad.

The boards cost between $15 and $40 each depending on version and quantity.

Our dream is that you will fab your own boards, make changes, and share your work - giving this design life beyond our efforts.

Designed by Taylor Alexander for Twisted Fields, for the Acorn Precision Farming Rover.

Many thanks to Daniel Theobald. Without your financial support and encouragement this project would not have been possible.

Driver Module: common questions

What microcontroller does the Driver Module use?

The Driver Module is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Driver Module?

The Driver Module measures 68.8 × 36 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.609 mm thick.

How many components are on the Driver Module?

107 components, from 45 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Driver Module design files?

From the Twisted-Fields/rp2040-motor-controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Driver Module design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Driver Module without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
