About the Tesla-Coil-MIDI-Synth PCB

Tesla-Coil-MIDI-Synth is an open source PCB design by ucsbieee, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 132.1 × 61 mm, with 94 components from 44 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the AZ1117-3.3, SAM3A4C, SFH617A-1, HFBR-1412PTZ and 74LVC4245A. By type, the board carries 29 resistors, 26 capacitors, 9 ICs, 8 diodes, 7 connectors and 7 inductors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Convert MIDI to pulses to drive our DRSSTC

We had the idea of using sampled audio output after the V2 boards were made. Unfortunately, the (unused) pins that have the necessary DMA capability are not broken out on the board. So, to get audio capability, you will need to solder a very thin wire (~34AWG) underneath the D10 pad on the microcontroller and run it to EXT_IN on the expansion header. Hope you're comfortable with BGA soldering :)
