Experiment in building a simple battery powered ESP32 e-Ink room temperature thermometer

Custom PCB replacing the XIAO-C6/FireBeetle dev-board rigs. ESP32-C6-MINI-1 + BMP581 + universal 24-pin EPD interface with on-board gated booster, USB-C charging, LDO power tree. Design driven by the PPK2 measurement campaign in docs/notes.md (repo root).

Status: rev A built and working. Ordered 2026-07-20 (archive/order-2026-07-20/), landed at €273.93, about €68.50 per assembled board (ORDERING.md §8). Where each board is now: BRINGUP.md. Board 1 passed Phases 0–2 on 2026-07-29 (archive/bringup-rev-a-first-article.md). The deployment configuration is board 2 with a GDEH0576T81, fitted…

Lowpower epaper thermometer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Lowpower epaper thermometer use?

The Lowpower epaper thermometer is built around the ESP32-C6-MINI-1-N4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Lowpower epaper thermometer PCB?

The Lowpower epaper thermometer measures 48 × 35 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Lowpower epaper thermometer?

75 components, from 37 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Lowpower epaper thermometer design files?

From the antoinecellerier/lowpower-epaper-thermometer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Lowpower epaper thermometer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which antoinecellerier chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Lowpower epaper thermometer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
