About the Aura a04 PCB

Aura a04 is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Avinash1286, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 35.2 × 35.2 mm, with 72 components from 37 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the BQ25186DLHR, W25N01GVZEIG, TLV75530PDBVR, MAX17048G+T10 and DRV2605LDGSR. By type, the board carries 27 resistors, 19 capacitors, 10 ICs, 4 connectors, 3 switches and 3 LEDs.

It belongs with the wearables and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

AURA: open wearable note-taking device development — PCB, printable case, firmware, Next.js/Convex notes, interactive 3D site and launch film.

Status: incomplete engineering design, not a fabrication release. This project starts from a new native KiCad project, schematic hierarchy and board; it does not import the routed A03 board as a template. All new CAD mutations are made through KiCad MCP. Existing exact-MPN library definitions may be consulted or reused after verification.

The full A04 objective includes the circular pendant, real manufacturing and printable-part checks, firmware, mobile/context workflow, website, film and physical launch qualification. These files are one workstream toward that objective.

Aura a04: common questions

What microcontroller does the Aura a04 use?

The Aura a04 is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Aura a04 PCB?

The Aura a04 measures 35.2 × 35.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Aura a04?

72 components, from 37 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Aura a04 design files?

From the Avinash1286/pendent repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Aura a04 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Avinash1286 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Aura a04 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
