About the BACKPLANE A PCB

BACKPLANE A is an open source PCB design by Desval27, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 428.6 × 130.2 mm, with 49 components from 35 distinct parts.

By type, the board carries 21 connectors, 18 capacitors, 4 jumpers, 3 diodes and 3 resistors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Knock-off of the Elektor Formant Synthesizer project with the initial goal of being quasi-authentic and secondary goal undecided. Probably tweaks of some kind.

Components that are not easily sourcable are substitued. Substituted components or adapater boards are noted.

DIN 41617 connecters are replaced with DIN 41612 connectors (Type B 32-PIN). A backplane is included as part of the project to avoid the point-to-point backend wiring of the original. However, the current backplane does not currently offer more configurability compared to the original. It simply provides a secure connection and reduces wiring complexity and fragility.
