RS485 / WiFi cape for Beaglebone black

The Beaglobone Black is a TI Sitara AM3359 ARM Cortex-A8 CPU based evaluation board with two 40pin 100mil pinsockets. These pinsockets can be used for additional functionality boards called capes. The com4bbb cape enhance the Beaglebone Black by a ESP32 based WiFi module and a RS485 tranceiver.

com4bbb is provided under the terms of the CERN-OHL-S license version 2 as provided in the LICENSES/CERN-OHL-S-2.0 file.

Com4bbb: common questions

What microcontroller does the Com4bbb use?

The Com4bbb is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Com4bbb PCB?

The Com4bbb measures 54.6 × 86.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Com4bbb?

61 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Com4bbb design files?

From the eurovibes/com4bbb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Com4bbb design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which eurovibes chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Com4bbb without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
