Its main chip is the ESP32-S3R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AP22802AW5-7, MPR121QR2, TPS62827DMQR, TPS62065DSGR and ME6211C18M5G-N. By type, the board carries 94 capacitors, 80 resistors, 13 ICs, 13 inductors, 5 connectors and 5 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, audio and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Replacement PCB for the Google Home mini v1

MiciMike Home Mini is a drop-in PCB replacement for the original Google Home Mini) with the Micro-USB power connector. It replaces the original electronics with open-source hardware based on an ESP32-S3 and an XMOS xCORE audio processor, and is intended to run ESPHome-based open voice assistant firmware.

The project follows the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition architecture as closely as the Google Home Mini enclosure allows, while adapting the layout, connectors, controls, microphones, LEDs, and audio path to the original speaker shell.

Home mini v1-drop in: common questions

What microcontroller does the Home mini v1-drop in use?

The Home mini v1-drop in is built around the ESP32-S3R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Home mini v1-drop in PCB?

The Home mini v1-drop in measures 72.4 × 70 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Home mini v1-drop in?

223 components, from 76 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Home mini v1-drop in design files?

From the iMike78/home-mini-v1-drop-in-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Home mini v1-drop in design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which iMike78 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Home mini v1-drop in without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
