Insect pests cause billions of dollars of damage annually to stored grain, timber structures, vineyards, greenhouses, and homes. Conventional detection relies on visual inspection or sticky traps — both lag indicators that detect an infestation after it is established. Stridophone flips the timeline: it continuously listens for the species-specific acoustic signatures insects produce when they feed, mate, or communicate, and raises an alert the moment a target species' call pattern emerges above the ambient noise floor.

Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector: common questions

What microcontroller does the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector use?

The Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector is built around the ESP32-C6-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector PCB?

The Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector measures 90 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector?

18 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector design files?

From the jayis1/hardware-design-lab repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jayis1. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Stridophone — Bioacoustic Insect Detector without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
