Cryogenic preservation underpins modern medicine and biology. Human gametes, embryos, stem-cell lines, cord blood, tissue biobanks, and irreplaceable research cultures are stored in liquid-nitrogen (LN2) Dewars at −196 °C. The integrity of these collections depends on a single fragile invariant: the Dewar must always contain enough liquid nitrogen.

The KiCad project lives in the jayis1/hardware-design-lab repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

Cryo-Sentinel: common questions

What microcontroller does the Cryo-Sentinel use?

The Cryo-Sentinel is built around the nRF5340-QKAA, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Cryo-Sentinel PCB?

The Cryo-Sentinel measures 95 × 65 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Cryo-Sentinel?

23 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Cryo-Sentinel design files?

From the jayis1/hardware-design-lab repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Cryo-Sentinel design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jayis1. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Cryo-Sentinel without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
