About the Esp32-autosport PCB

Esp32-autosport is an open source ESP32 PCB design by MrBlahhhh, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 84 × 100 mm, with 178 components from 77 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LM74700QDBVRQ1, TLV431ASN1T1G, LM5164DDAR, USBLC6-2SC6 and SN74AHCT1G125DBVR. By type, the board carries 78 resistors, 43 capacitors, 16 diodes, 13 ICs, 10 connectors and 7 transistors.

- You cannot kill it with the wiring. Battery backwards? Blocks it, forever, no blown fuse. Alternator load dump, jump start, ignition spikes? Clamped. A sensor wire shorted to 12 V? That channel's fuse trips, the board keeps logging. - Ignition-off doesn't corrupt the card. The board sees the power cut ~150 ms before it actually dies and uses that time (banked in two big capacitors) to finish the write and close the file. - 4 sensor inputs…

Esp32-autosport: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp32-autosport use?

The Esp32-autosport is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp32-autosport PCB?

The Esp32-autosport measures 84 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp32-autosport?

178 components, from 77 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp32-autosport design files?

From the MrBlahhhh/esp32-autosport repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp32-autosport design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with MrBlahhhh. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Esp32-autosport without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
