About the OnStep-JUWEI-17 PCB

OnStep-JUWEI-17 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by satakagi, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 67 × 87 mm, with 72 components from 45 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the DS3231MZ, CH340G, ESP-12F, AMS1117-3.3 and PC817. By type, the board carries 23 resistors, 19 connectors, 14 capacitors, 6 ICs, 4 diodes and 2 modules.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and rf & radio designs in this gallery.

From the project

An open-source hardware controller for the JUWEI-17 harmonic drive equatorial mount, based on the OnStep ESP32 Mini. By using a Giteki-certified module, it can be used with peace of mind in Japan, and can be freely developed and improved with the open-source community overseas.

OnStep-JUWEI-17: common questions

What microcontroller does the OnStep-JUWEI-17 use?

The OnStep-JUWEI-17 is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the OnStep-JUWEI-17 PCB?

The OnStep-JUWEI-17 measures 67 × 87 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OnStep-JUWEI-17?

72 components, from 45 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OnStep-JUWEI-17 design files?

From the satakagi/OnStep-JUWEI-17 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OnStep-JUWEI-17 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which satakagi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the OnStep-JUWEI-17 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
