About the D6 PCB

D6 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by tpcarlson, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80.5 × 128.5 mm, with 133 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the TL074, TXS0108EPW, MAX7219ENG+, ds1882z-050+ and KCSA02-107. By type, the board carries 38 resistors, 23 diodes, 23 capacitors, 13 connectors, 12 ICs and 10 switches.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

Mostly Eurorack projects

Dice is a 16hp, clickless signal router. It can also be thought of a bit like a microprocessor-controlled sequential switch with one input and six outputs. Outputs are determined by rolls of a dice, or by manually muting and unmuting with buttons.

As measured by the joranalogue Test 3, around 100-200 mA on +12v and 40 mA on -12v at peak. The 5v rail is unused. The exact power draw depends on how many of the LEDs are lit at any one time.

D6: common questions

What microcontroller does the D6 use?

The D6 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the D6 PCB?

The D6 measures 80.5 × 128.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the D6?

133 components, from 27 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the D6 design files?

From the tpcarlson/synth-diy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the D6 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tpcarlson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the D6 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
