About the Sycamore PCB

Sycamore is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by tpcarlson, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60.1 × 128.5 mm, with 145 components from 40 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MCP6002-xSN, LM1117DT-5.0, MCP3208, LM4040LP-3.3 and HDSP-7501. By type, the board carries 57 resistors, 22 capacitors, 16 diodes, 15 ICs, 12 connectors and 9 transistors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Mostly Eurorack projects

Sycamore is a looping quantized sequencer with up to 64 steps, and up to 100 scales. Sycamore allows for CV control over many of its internal parameters including the loop length, range, and note range in a scale to be quantized to.

Some advanced features are accessible through a one-layer menu to allow for more deep tweaking of harmonies, delay, and scale quantization - however, Sycamore is perfectly usable without touching these at all!

Sycamore: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sycamore use?

The Sycamore is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Sycamore PCB?

The Sycamore measures 60.1 × 128.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sycamore?

145 components, from 40 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sycamore design files?

From the tpcarlson/synth-diy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sycamore design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tpcarlson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Sycamore without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
