About the Fencing Club standalone scoring box PCB

Fencing Club standalone scoring box is an open source ESP32 PCB design by AndrewCraswell, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 165 × 100 mm, with 199 components from 80 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the STM32G474RET6, AP2112K-3.3TRG1, STUSB4500QTR, REC30K-2405SZ and AP63203WU-7. By type, the board carries 90 resistors, 60 capacitors, 18 ICs, 9 connectors, 9 diodes and 5 transistors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open standalone-scoring-box.kicadpro in KiCad 10. This is the separate HUB75 standalone product**, not the virtual scoring box and not an overwrite of the frozen combined board.

The native schematic, placement and PCB routing are implemented. The four-layer, 1.6mm board provisionally retains the combined board's 165 x 100mm outline. There are 206 footprints: 199 purchased parts, three bare wire terminations and four unplated mounting holes. The combined design had 223 purchased parts; the reduction is 24 parts, not a priced cost saving.

Fencing Club standalone scoring box: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fencing Club standalone scoring box use?

The Fencing Club standalone scoring box is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Fencing Club standalone scoring box PCB?

The Fencing Club standalone scoring box measures 165 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fencing Club standalone scoring box?

199 components, from 80 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fencing Club standalone scoring box design files?

From the AndrewCraswell/agency repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fencing Club standalone scoring box design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which AndrewCraswell chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fencing Club standalone scoring box without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
