About the Piano solenoid controller PCB

Piano solenoid controller is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by CRImier, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 122.5 × 100 mm, with 179 components from 47 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the SL2.1A, AP1117-33, W25Q32JVSS, 74HC595 and PC817. By type, the board carries 106 resistors, 26 diodes, 16 transistors, 14 connectors, 10 ICs and 7 capacitors.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

My KiCad boards. Can't be bothered uploading individually anymore, so here you go.

This is a repository where I upload [almost] everything that I design in KiCad. As usual, if you think your work warrants doing backups, just upload it to a git repo ;-P I hope this will be useful.

About 50% of all of the PCBs have a README describing what they're meant for and the PCBs physical parameters, the README follows the TEMPLATE.md standard. I'll be adding more READMEs as I go.

Piano solenoid controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Piano solenoid controller use?

The Piano solenoid controller is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Piano solenoid controller PCB?

The Piano solenoid controller measures 122.5 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Piano solenoid controller?

179 components, from 47 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Piano solenoid controller design files?

From the CRImier/MyKiCad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Piano solenoid controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which CRImier chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Piano solenoid controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
