About the VIA Plus PCB

VIA Plus is an open source PCB design by demik, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 77.5 × 44.7 mm, with 18 components from 11 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LF347, OPA1688, 74LS244 and 74LS161. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 5 ICs and 4 capacitors.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

Pins labelled on top of the PCB. Includes 6522 PLCC adapter

Both RTC and VSYNC pulses are displayed using the decimal point LED. A 1Hz blink would implies that only the RTC is working, a 3.75 Hz blink would implies that only the VSYNC is working and there is some RTC related issues. Under normal operation both pulses are interleaved (looks like a random pulsing)

VIA Plus: common questions

How big is the VIA Plus PCB?

The VIA Plus measures 77.5 × 44.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the VIA Plus?

18 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VIA Plus design files?

From the demik/oldworld repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VIA Plus design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which demik chose for the repository.
