Its main chip is the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the Teensy-LC, 74LVC1G126, LMR54410FDBVR, RMC20452T and HCPL-0631-500E. By type, the board carries 26 resistors, 20 diodes, 17 connectors, 9 ICs, 9 capacitors and 8 transistors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

midi control of things that tap and go boink

Two behaviours exist on the main board right now which can be set using a small dip switch: either pulse-lenght or pwm duty cycle as third 'velocity' argument in a MIDI command.

current version (still in operation) uses an ATmega328 (started out with the ATmega8 and then the ATmega88 in WinAVR. now it uses the Arduino environment). In the meantime a version has been made using Teensy, but has not been further pursued / produces (when Teensies were made of nonobtanium). On the wishlist a new version with pico

Dimmer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dimmer use?

The Dimmer is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Dimmer PCB?

The Dimmer measures 105.4 × 76.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dimmer?

94 components, from 57 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dimmer design files?

From the edwindertien/foundscape repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dimmer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with edwindertien. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dimmer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
