Its main chip is the ESP32-WROVER, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the OPA2683, PCM5102, PAM8302AAD, TPS63700DRCT and TPS63001. By type, the board carries 54 resistors, 37 capacitors, 10 transistors, 9 ICs, 9 connectors and 5 inductors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Hardware Design files of a replacement mainboard for the Sony Watchman FD-10. This turns it into a bluetooth and WiFi-enabled vector display.

* In "Video" mode, the ESP32 renders the result of the Lorenz Attractor equation. You can change the simulation speed using the "Tune" knob.

You'll need: Sony Watchman Model FD-10 Pre-assembled replacemend mainboard (eg. from JLCPCB assembly) * Two 803040 (1000mAh) LiIon batterys with JST-PH connector

Open the Sony Watchman and unscrew the original mainboard. Make sure to keep all the screws in a safe place.

Sony scopeman: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sony scopeman use?

The Sony scopeman is built around the ESP32-WROVER, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Sony scopeman PCB?

The Sony scopeman measures 53.5 × 101.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sony scopeman?

135 components, from 65 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sony scopeman design files?

From the lucysrausch/sony-scopeman repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sony scopeman design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with lucysrausch. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Sony scopeman without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
