This repository contains only the electrical design: schematics, PCB layouts, and KiCad symbol/footprint library.

A Linux Mint host PC inside the chassis (powered by the in-chassis PicoPSU) commands two central RP2350 controllers over USB:

HV Controller: the master optics-column controller. Drives source bias, lenses, deflectors, the scintillator detector, raster scan, and the PMT readout. Bridges the floating cathode side onto USB. LV Controller: the vacuum subsystem state machine: roughing pump, turbopump VFD (RS-485), isolation valve…

Beam Alignment Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Beam Alignment Controller use?

The Beam Alignment Controller is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Beam Alignment Controller PCB?

The Beam Alignment Controller measures 70 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the Beam Alignment Controller?

81 components, from 37 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Beam Alignment Controller design files?

From the MECSEM/electrical repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Beam Alignment Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MECSEM chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Beam Alignment Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
