A Linux Mint host PC inside the chassis (powered by the in-chassis PicoPSU) commands two central RP2350 controllers over USB:

HV Controller: the master optics-column controller. Drives source bias, lenses, deflectors, the scintillator detector, raster scan, and the PMT readout. Bridges the floating cathode side onto USB. LV Controller: the vacuum subsystem state machine: roughing pump, turbopump VFD (RS-485), isolation valve…

Source Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Source Controller use?

The Source Controller is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Source Controller PCB?

The Source Controller measures 72 × 50 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the Source Controller?

114 components, from 51 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Source Controller design files?

From the MECSEM/electrical repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Source Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MECSEM chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Source Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
