This repository contains only the electrical design: schematics, PCB layouts, and KiCad symbol/footprint library.

A Linux Mint host PC inside the chassis (powered by the in-chassis PicoPSU) commands two central RP2350 controllers over USB:

HV Controller: the master optics-column controller. Drives source bias, lenses, deflectors, the scintillator detector, raster scan, and the PMT readout. Bridges the floating cathode side onto USB. LV Controller: the vacuum subsystem state machine: roughing pump, turbopump VFD (RS-485), isolation valve…

LV Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the LV Controller use?

The LV Controller is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the LV Controller PCB?

The LV Controller measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the LV Controller?

155 components, from 50 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the LV Controller design files?

From the MECSEM/electrical repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the LV Controller design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MECSEM chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the LV Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
