From the project

All the electrical designs for MECSEM.

KiCad sources for all the PCBs in the microscope.

This repository contains only the electrical design: schematics, PCB layouts, and KiCad symbol/footprint library.

A Linux Mint host PC inside the chassis (powered by the in-chassis PicoPSU) commands two central RP2350 controllers over USB:

HV Controller: the master optics-column controller. Drives source bias, lenses, deflectors, the scintillator detector, raster scan, and the PMT readout. Bridges the floating cathode side onto USB. LV Controller: the vacuum subsystem state machine: roughing pump, turbopump VFD (RS-485), isolation valve…

HVDC test board: common questions

What microcontroller does the HVDC test board use?

The HVDC test board is built around the RP2350B, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the HVDC test board?

The HVDC test board measures 120 × 120 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the HVDC test board?

287 components, from 93 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the HVDC test board design files?

From the MECSEM/electrical repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the HVDC test board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MECSEM chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the HVDC test board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
