About the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 PCB

SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 is an open source PIC PCB design by MouseBiteLabs, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 116.2 × 77.7 mm, with 59 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC12F629, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the SN74CBT3257CPWR, 74LS139, 29F160, AS6C1008 and TPS3613. By type, the board carries 15 ICs, 14 capacitors, 12 resistors, 5 switches, 2 connectors and 1 transistor.

From the project

A collection of Super Nintendo cartridge circuit boards

This is a new and improved Super Nintendo cartridge circuit board design that is capable of being flashed via the Open Source Cart Reader (OSCR) by sanni. Alternatively, you can also flash the ROM chips before soldering them to the board through the use of a programmer like the T48 programmer with the TSOP48 adapter. This cartridge is made entirely from brand new off the shelf components. No donors are required, and you don't need to rely on AliExpress or eBay for parts!

SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2: common questions

What microcontroller does the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 use?

The SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 is built around the PIC12F629, from the PIC family.

How big is the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 PCB?

The SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 measures 116.2 × 77.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2?

59 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 design files?

From the MouseBiteLabs/Super-Nintendo-Cartridges repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which MouseBiteLabs chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SNES AdvancedFlash 1-2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
