About the Vikropad PCB

Vikropad is an open source PCB design by sadekbaroudi, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 94 × 94.5 mm, with 59 components from 10 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the SN74HC595. By type, the board carries 28 diodes, 18 switches, 5 connectors, 4 ICs and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the keyboards and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

This is a VIK module designed to demonstrate a macropad using 2 shift registers for the columns, and using VIK GPIO AD1 and GPIO AD2 for the rows.

This is a VIK module designed to demonstrate a macropad using 2 shift registers for the columns, and using VIK GPIO AD1 and GPIO AD2 for the rows.

It requires some custom firmware to handle the matrix scanning, as it's independent of whatever keyboard you connect this to.

It includes: 2x 74hc595 shift register (THT or SMD) 2x 5 way switch hat, e.g. adafruit 504 * MX/Choc V1/Gateron low profile switch footprint, both hotswap and solderable

Vikropad: common questions

How big is the Vikropad PCB?

The Vikropad measures 94 × 94.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Vikropad?

59 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Vikropad design files?

From the sadekbaroudi/vik repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Vikropad design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which sadekbaroudi chose for the repository.
