About the NOGGIN PCB

NOGGIN is an open source STM32 PCB design by berkeleyauv, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 31.3 × 34 mm, with 57 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F072CBUx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AZ1117-3.3, ATA6561, ACS70331 and DRV8871DDA. By type, the board carries 21 capacitors, 15 resistors, 9 connectors, 6 ICs, 3 switches and 2 fuses.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

PCB designs for Underwater Robotics at Berkeley (UR@B)

Based on the STM32F072 (or alternately the STM32F091), NOGGIN is a general purpose board containing current/voltage sense, brushed motor driver, CAN, I2C/UART/DAC/ADC connectors, debug switches, RGB LED, and GPIO breakout.

NOGGIN: common questions

What microcontroller does the NOGGIN use?

The NOGGIN is built around the STM32F072CBUx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the NOGGIN PCB?

The NOGGIN measures 31.3 × 34 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the NOGGIN?

57 components, from 29 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the NOGGIN design files?

From the berkeleyauv/RoboSub_HW repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the NOGGIN design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which berkeleyauv chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the NOGGIN without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
