About the Step counter PCB

Step counter is an open source PCB design by carr-james, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board, with 8 components from 3 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 4017 and 4011. By type, the board carries 4 ICs and 4 capacitors.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Reusable Eurorack circuit blocks (KiCad 10 design blocks) and house design rules

Counts eight steps from a clock, and passes a token to the next counter so that two or more modules make one longer sequence.

U1 is a decade counter. It advances one step on each rising clock edge and raises one of STEP0 to STEP7. When the eighth step finishes, U1 reaches Q8 and stops. Q8 leaves the block as TOKENOUT`.

U2 holds the token logic. It stops the counter when the module does not hold the token, and it stops the counter again when the module has finished its eight steps.

Step counter: common questions

How big is the Step counter PCB?

The Step counter has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Step counter?

8 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Step counter design files?

From the carr-james/eurorack-blocks repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Step counter design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with carr-james. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
