This is an alternative hardware platform for FujiNet that allows you to build your own using all through-hole technology (THT) components and an Espressif ESP32-DevKitC-VE devkit board. You could probably also use a ESP32-DevKitC-VIE board, but you will need to either use an external IPEX connected antenna or engage in some micro soldering since the on-board PCB antenna is not connected by default. You must use ESP32-WROVER based devkit boards, the cheaper ESP32-WROOM boards lack the PSRAM needed by FujiNet…

FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield: common questions

What microcontroller does the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield use?

The FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield is built around the C529589, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield?

The FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield measures 99.1 × 55.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield?

40 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield design files?

From the FujiNetWIFI/fujinet-hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which FujiNetWIFI chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the FujiNet ESP32-DevKitC-VE Shield without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
