About the Vinyl adc rev c PCB

Vinyl adc rev c is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by MadsRudolph, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 170 × 120 mm, with 111 components from 43 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RASPBERRY PI 4, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the 74HC244, LM358, 74HCT132, 74HC4040 and 74HC157. By type, the board carries 45 resistors, 39 capacitors, 17 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Discrete 3rd-order delta-sigma audio ADC: stacked KiCad PCBs, SPICE simulations, 3D-printable enclosure, and laser-cut acrylic top

The four CNC-milled boards exist because of one number: 0.84 mm between two DIP pads, which nothing could pass on the single-sided mill (see ../PCB-NOTES.md). A fab removes that constraint, and with it the reason to split, so rev C is the reference sheet built as it was drawn -- one board, 170 x 120 mm, four layers, every part through-hole and socketed exactly as before, with the Raspberry Pi 4 plugged into the underside on its own 40-pin header. The measured rev B stack (docs/bringup-log-2026-09.md 13a) is the baseline this board will be compared against.

Vinyl adc rev c: common questions

What microcontroller does the Vinyl adc rev c use?

The Vinyl adc rev c is built around the RASPBERRY PI 4, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Vinyl adc rev c PCB?

The Vinyl adc rev c measures 170 × 120 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Vinyl adc rev c?

111 components, from 43 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Vinyl adc rev c design files?

From the MadsRudolph/vinyl-adc repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Vinyl adc rev c design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with MadsRudolph. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Vinyl adc rev c without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
