About the Corne Cherry PCB

Corne Cherry is an open source ESP32 PCB design by mornepousse, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 169.3 × 198.4 mm, with 275 components from 42 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the 1N4148W, NRF24L01_Breakout, SRV05-4, SIP32431DR3 and CH334R. By type, the board carries 74 diodes, 73 resistors, 54 switches, 30 capacitors, 23 ICs and 12 connectors.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Niphargus — a slim, indestructible wireless split keyboard. ESP32 + nRF24, wired fallback, and an emergency kit hidden behind the USB port. The successor to the Rouge-Gorge.

Niphargus is a thin, unkillable wireless split keyboard.

- Two self-contained halves — one ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 + nRF24L01+ and a 16340 cell each, matrix scanning in deep sleep (RTC domain), the KeSp dongle on the host side. - Wired fallback — direct USB-C plus a TRRS jack between halves: plugging it back in must be enough. A 5 V handshake on the link makes hot-plug spark-free. - ESD hardening throughout — TVS diodes on USB and TRRS, 100 Ω in series on every matrix line, careful ground planes. The static discharge you bring back to the keyboard will no longer crash it. - Sharp Memory LCD (right…

Corne Cherry: common questions

What microcontroller does the Corne Cherry use?

The Corne Cherry is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Corne Cherry PCB?

The Corne Cherry measures 169.3 × 198.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Corne Cherry?

275 components, from 42 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Corne Cherry design files?

From the mornepousse/Niphargus repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Corne Cherry design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which mornepousse chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Corne Cherry without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
