Pilot Kit Box (ESP32-P4 Edition)

Integrated ADS-B / GNSS / IMU expansion board for the Pilot Kit Box 集成 ADS-B / GNSS / IMU 扩展板

A 6-layer, 100.1 × 62.1 mm HAT that stacks onto the Waveshare ESP32-P4-WIFI6-Touch-LCD-4.3 carrier's 2×20 header. It replaces the four discrete modules used by the current prototype (RTL-SDR dongle, BNO085, GT-U8 GNSS, BMP388) with a single board — including its own 1090 MHz receive chain, so no RTL-SDR dongle is required.

The KiCad project lives in the naizhao/Pilot-Kit-Box-ESP32-P4 repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

Expansion board v4: common questions

What microcontroller does the Expansion board v4 use?

The Expansion board v4 is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Expansion board v4?

The Expansion board v4 measures 100 × 62 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Expansion board v4?

213 components, from 99 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Expansion board v4 design files?

From the naizhao/Pilot-Kit-Box-ESP32-P4 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Expansion board v4 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which naizhao chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Expansion board v4 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
