CMOS Elementary Cellular Automata Visualization Board

This is an open-source KiCad design files for a circuit that could generate and visualize Elementary Automata only by using common logic ICs. There are two versions available: Standard and Minimal.

Standard version is a large board of size 247x127mm (9.7x5in), suitable for putting in a frame. Featuring:

- 26 Logic ICs in DIP package. (Okay, I have an ATMEGA328 here but it's here just to drive the display. Its firmware is available here as well.) - 1.44 inch TFT display with a display driver which can draws a complete picture of that elementary automata rule. - Fully visualized 65-bit shift…

Automata Generator Minimal: common questions

What microcontroller does the Automata Generator Minimal use?

The Automata Generator Minimal is built around the ATmega328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Automata Generator Minimal PCB?

The Automata Generator Minimal measures 128.3 × 71.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Automata Generator Minimal?

103 components, from 49 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Automata Generator Minimal design files?

From the Sirawit7205/Automata-Visualization-Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Automata Generator Minimal design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Sirawit7205. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Automata Generator Minimal without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
