About the OverHead v1 PCB

OverHead v1 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by stefanofinetti, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 313 × 206 mm, with 345 components from 82 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA2560, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3, CH340G, MIC29302WU, DM13A-GREEN-0-100 and DM13A-WHITE-0-100. By type, the board carries 170 diodes, 84 resistors, 39 switches, 30 capacitors, 8 ICs and 6 connectors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Complete project for the Airbus A319/320/321/330 OverHead Panel

A compact Airbus A319/320/321 overhead panel for MobiFlight: 3D-printed panels and Korry-style push buttons, the boards that carry every switch, light and display, and the firmware for its three OLED displays.

The panel covers ADIRS, AIR COND, ANTI ICE, APU, ELEC, EXT LT, FUEL, GPWS and SIGNS.

v1 is one four-layer board, 313 × 206 mm, behind the whole panel. It works, but it costs well over €100 once shipping and customs are added, and a single mistake means reordering all of it.

OverHead v1: common questions

What microcontroller does the OverHead v1 use?

The OverHead v1 is built around the ATMEGA2560, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the OverHead v1 PCB?

The OverHead v1 measures 313 × 206 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OverHead v1?

345 components, from 82 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OverHead v1 design files?

From the stefanofinetti/MF_OverHead_Panel repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OverHead v1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which stefanofinetti chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the OverHead v1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
