About the Faders PCB

Faders is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Tommie1236, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 160 × 130 mm, with 348 components from 35 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the AT25SF081-SSHD-X, MTCH105, MCP3008, LM4040D33 and PCA9635. By type, the board carries 170 diodes, 59 capacitors, 35 ICs, 35 resistors, 25 switches and 12 connectors.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

lighting focused midi controller

- motorized faders. Mostly for dimming controls, enough in the playback section and 1 as Master. I chose motorized so they could sync with the controlling software if the value changes and for for example if you were to switch banks to a new set of controls. (mydmx doesn't support that but i wanted to design my controller to work with almost anything.)

- Buttons. for playbacks/executors en general control, a whole lot. Of Course. what would a controller be without a lot of buttons. I also want them to have black with transparent text keycaps and rgb leds below to show the status of the…

Faders: common questions

What microcontroller does the Faders use?

The Faders is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Faders PCB?

The Faders measures 160 × 130 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Faders?

348 components, from 35 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Faders design files?

From the Tommie1236/midi-controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Faders design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license, which Tommie1236 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Faders without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
